Tuningi is a stunning lodge set in a valley on the Western side of Madikwe Game Reserve. Tuningi is decorated in a Colonial African style. The main lodge offers an indoor and outdoor lounge, dining room, large deck and a rim-flow pool and has a wooden walk way to a magnificent boma set under an ancient, sprawling fig tree.
The lodge is small and exclusive and only accommodates 16 people in elegant, free standing rooms that all have enormous bathrooms, outside showers, fireplaces and fabulous wooden decks. The rooms are set apart from each other to provide ultimate privacy and peace.
This lovely lodge is specifically designed for families and caters for children of all ages. Tuningi is one of the few 5-star lodges in South Africa that welcomes children and by doing so, avails them to the wonders of nature, wildlife and our delicate eco-system. The family units at Tuningi consist of two double, en suite bedrooms with an adjoining living area; perfect for parents traveling with children but wanting their own space too.
Madikwe Game Reserve is one of South Africa’s largest malaria free, big 5 wild life reserves. The broad mix of habitats and diverse geology of Madikwe, allows a wide range of wild life to flourish.
Madikwe is home to 28 different animal species and a rich biodiversity of mammals aswell as hippo in the Marico River – provide exceptional game viewing.

Game Drives

• From Johannesburg International Airport now O.R. TAMBO AIRPORT - Take R21 to Pretoria.
• Head north on the N1 towards the N4 Toll Road
• Take the N4 Toll road north west towards Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust
• Once in Zeerust turn right at the fourth stop street into President Street. There is a signpost on the left that says “ Madikwe Game Reserve/Gaborone” and a First National Bank on the corner to the right
• Follow the R49 towards the reserve for approximately 97km
• The first entrance to the reserve is Abjaterskop gate
• Pass that gate and enter at the next gate – Wonderboom Gate exactly 7km from the first gate
Please contact the lodge directly on the above contact number should you require any assistance with directions or if you will be arriving later or earlier than originally planned.
Late arrivals are to please contact Tuningi directly when they are in Zeerust.

Reserve Gate Open & Closing Times:

Open: 06h00
Closes: 21h00

Should you be arriving after 18h00 please kindly advise Tuningi directly if you have not advised your reservations consultant so that they can arrange to meet you at the gate of the reserve and escort you to the lodge. Driving in the park alone after dark is not allowed.
Only with very particular arrangement will guests be collected from the gate after 18h00.

Check Out Time: 11h00

What to bring:

Comfortable walking shoes, Sun Hat, Sunglasses, Sun Block, cameras & binoculars, light neutral colored clothing, swimming costume.
Warm jackets are essential in Winter.

Temperatures:

Summer - 12°C – 35°C
Winter - 8°C - 16°C

Children:

Kindly note that children 5yrs and younger are not allowed to participate on normal game drives. Tuningi does however have a lovely children’s programme which is inclusive of kiddie’s game drives. The kiddies game drives usually go out in the mornings after breakfast for an hour.
Children are also introduced to the chef on arrival and given a chance to inform us on special dietary needs, preferred times for meals, allergies, etc.
Children who stay behind on evening game drives have their dinner served at 18h00.
In the mornings, the children have corn flakes before the parents come back from drive.
